Referencing Objects in Different Modules from a "Reference Only Module"?

Hi All,

I realize the title of this is quite vague, so let me explain. Say I have a few modules that represent various sub-components of a system. Each of those sub-component modules has a full hierarchy of DOORs modules linked to them (decomposed reqs, tests, designs, etc). I now want to create a super-set module that pulls groups of objects from each, by reference. That is, I don't want to copy over the objects to the super-set module I simply want to view them by reference (such that changes in the sub-component module will be visible in the super-set), thus leaving the hierarchy in place, without replication.

I know that I could create a glorified trace view but that would put sub-components into separate columns whereas I would want the super-set document to look just like a standard DOORs module (to the average user).

Basically I want to use the DOORs Database as a "Database" to minimize redundancy (i.e I don't want the same information replicated in different modules). Think of the Super-Set module as an SQL Query that parses the various modules for only the relevant flagged data. Trying to keep things simple at first, I am not considering baselines.

Anyway I thought it may be an intriguing question to some of you, and wondered if anyone thought the same or came across a DXL that does something similar.

Regards
Carlton

The layout method would work, using empty super-set objects and displaying only Layout columns of linked sub-components. AttrDXL would show a vast improvement in performance. You could have a view with standard column titles "ID" and perhaps "Main", but they are attrDXL of linked objects.

Hi Louie,
Thanks for the quick response. I will look into using the attrDXL in a template to see if I can create a view using referenced objects' absolute number, and trigger "Main" attr updates on changes. Sounds like a good starting point.
Thx!
